The Sounds of Life, Love, Pain, Soul, Flesh, Death

Just as I have a love affair with film and movies, the same can be said about music. Both mediums speak to my emotions, to my soul. Below are artists who I either think are amazing (radiohead, Saul Williams) or music I just like to jam to (Chemical Brothers, Explosions...). So, if you like any of these selections, keep checking back for the newest posts.

RECENT LISTENS (RECOMMENDS BY BENS)

THE INEVITABLE RISE AND LIBERATION OF NIGGY TARDUST - SAUL WILLIAMS

- Produced by none other than Trent Reznor, this is a new

sound for Saul Williams; awesome second half of album,

although it is all enjoyable; if you've heard any of William's

other albums, you will at the very least appreciate the

collaboration. Some artists make you feel, others speak

to your soul. Like radiohead, Saul Williams speaks to my soul.

Also, by Saul Williams - AMETHYST ROCKSTAR

This is Saul's debut album, and it is amazing to say the least.

One of the few albums I've ever listened to that requires a

second listen immediately. Great Lyrics, GREAT!

ALL OF A SUDDEN I MISS EVERYONE - EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY

- What a fantastic, complete album by these Austin prog-rockers;

I saw them at ACL two years ago, and they were something to behold;

great opening track as well

WE ARE THE NIGHT - THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS

- Takes a second listen becuase the sound is much different than

previous efforts; I love how complete this album is from start to

finish; I can't do it often, but this CD is one that can be played

in one sitting; "Das Spiegel" and "The Pills Won't Help You Now"

are very enjoyable; listener beware - YOU WILL DANCE!

STRAWBERRY JAM - ANIMAL COLLECTIVE

- What a great Animal Collective album, better than "Feels" in

my first impressions; the album has a definite feel to it by

using really keeping the beat as the focus of many of the songs;

all of the voice stuff fits nicely; if you like the structured

craziness of Animal Collective, you'll dig the shit out of this.

CROSS - JUSTICE

- This French electro-house duo will literally rock your socks off;

the album "+" (cross) was released this year and it is four-on-the-floor magic;

their single, "D.A.N.C.E." has an awesome music video.

LOVE IS SIMPLE - AKRON/FAMILY

- This is another album I am currently unpacking; some of you will

definately not go for it especially, which is expected due to original

nature of sound; I like it so what the hell

IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD

FULL REVIEW

- The truth is, any Radiohead album is worth listening to, and

don't let anyone tell you different! (Yes, Hail To The Thief

is a masterpiece as well)

ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY - MUSE

- The next best thing to Radiohead, with Matthew Bellamy doing

his best Thom Yorke impression. This album rocks my socks off,

and the three-man band destroys in concert (The {THE NOW SECOND}

closest I've ever been to passing out at a musical event

{DUE TO RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE}). Give it a listen...

IS THIS IT? - THE STROKES

This Strokes debut album is oozing with style; Julian Casablancas'

voice is straight-up cool with him singing through a "fuzz box";

the opening track "Is This It?" is incredible; if you like anything

from the Strokes, this is a sure fire.
