From Dialogue to Impersonation
How to capture the brilliance of Thom Yorke on a Webpage...
...without trivializing his work into exposition.
Thom Yorke's band, radiohead, has always made music to convey various messages of alienation and loneliness, in a way that you can identify with even without having the knowledge of the motivations of Thom Yorke to write those lyrics. Radiohead to me may be a drastically different experience than someone else's radiohead, which is why music, like fight club, can convey meaning without a full explanation of the song.
If a song can arouse emotion, than it is affecting you, something is "stinging" you that evokes past memories or experiences. That song for me is "How to Disappear Completely" off the Kid A album:
"In a little while
I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah it's gone
And I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here
Strobe lights and blown speakers
Fireworks and hurricanes
I'm not here
This isn't happening
I'm not here
I'm not here"
I'm not here. This isn't happening.
